I never thought I would say that ever! I am not a dog person and don't know if I ever will be. He is a 3 year old blood hound/brown and tan coonhound mix. Devon's pal he works with has multiple dogs and this little man, Cletus (Kl-ee-tis) (that's me helping you pronounce it if you were trying to figure it out)... he was their only male. So you could imagine what he was going through and wonder how he got any attention at all right!?! ;). Devon offered to take him and she gladly took the offer. He kept telling me about him and the whole situation with his friend for months and I would just frown and shrug like ok whatever it's probably never going to happen. I didn't take it seriously. I don't want my home and kids and me smelling like wet dog 24/7 even though febreze exists and dog shampoo- you can still smell the dog and all it's glory. I think dogs are cute and like to look at them from a distance but I never grew up with one and that is why I wasn't embracing the thought. So Devon comes home one day and says that we are trying the dog for the weekend. Eeek! I know that I need to do this for him and the kids since they love animals. Devon works long hours-extra hours-and does everything for us and puts our needs before his always so I know that I need to do this for him.
Sorry for the butt-shot
I was expecting it to be BAD. Like barking all night, jumping up on us all the time, potty-ing in the house, and whatever else could go bad. But no, he is pretty good. House broken. He loves us already. He is already pretty protective. Londyn is obsessed with him! He will go anywhere we go even if its 5 feet away from where we just were. He will wait for me if I am in the kitchen cooking/baking/cleaning and sleep by the gate. Like right now while my kids are napping he is napping too, right beside me at the computer ^ see the pic above :) So now he is ours since it's going so well.
So he came from a home where is inside most of the time, and on the furniture but he learned real quick with me that NO means NO. So it's a good thing that he is house broken but he will eventually (soon) be outside only. In the mean time he doesn't tear apart my house or bark but this mom has her limits and although I wish I had the time and energy to mop twice a day, I don't like it and don't want to for very much longer :)

Your blog is adorable!! I love it! Your comments were so sweet on my blog and you are so beautiful! I am your newest follower!
I'd say you have a pretty good dog! I'm used to starting from scratch with the potty training and sleeping in the crate and everything. I think we had big dogs when I was really young but I barely remember them. Ever since then, we've almost always had small dogs (except for when there were still babies in the house and my mom didn't have time for dogs). If you keep up on them, you don't have to worry about the smells! If they're going inside and outside all the time, they'll naturally smell more so it's a toss-up!
Jim wasn't raised with animals at all. His mom thought it was gross to have them in their house, but his dad has a Ph.D. in microbiology and claims that they're actually good to have around kids because they help kids build immune systems (kids will generally have less allergy problems when they grow up if raised with animals) and most of their "illnesses" can't be contracted by humans.
I didn't know dogs could be kept outside in Arizona? Cletus might do okay but I'm used to snub-nosed dogs who can't handle extreme heat or cold (they can't breathe well). I'm happy you guys have this new little guy around. It's so cute when they follow you around!
I hope what I said helps you out! Congrats on your new addition! Haha!
I totally know how you feel. We only had a couple of temporary pets growing up and I never learned to like animals. I mean, I love the zoo, but if a dog comes up to me, I don't want to touch it or anything.
I am glad that he is being good for you guys though.
I know what you're saying... except I have always loved dogs. But something changed inside of me once I had a baby. I didn't like having our dog anymore and it made me feel guilty and sad inside. I think I relate to you because I didn't want the smell and the yucky part of the dog around my house and my baby. I can't stand the dog hair all over and the slobber and stinky breath. Our dog seemed like a nuisance when I was (and am) trying to take care of the baby and the house and she wants or needs something. I feel so bad I have treated her less than she deserves... but at the same time, I, like you, know how much my husband and Bronx enjoy her. I feel safer in my house because of her (she looks so scary!). Over time, I think you will learn to adjust to her and everything will work out. :) And besides, you got a good dog where she's no longer a puppy (and is not chewing on stuff and isn't super-hyper) and she's potty trained! You have skipped a very hard stage! Like you said, there's definitely extra house cleaning involved when you have a dog too... that part does stink but at least your kiddos will enjoy her!! :)
Very exciting that you got a dog! From experience as long as you bathe him often and keep him clean your house should not smell ever! Now we can take our doggies for a jog together when we work out =) Good luck
Oh man, this all sounds very familiar as I hate animals and my husband absolutely loves dogs! We have been through about 5 dogs now since we have been married and they never end up staying at our house because I can't handle it (it's kind of pathetic of me too because all of them have been outside). It looks like you are doing a great job of handling this though. You have more patience than I will ever have! He sure is a cute dog though and sounds like he is well-tempered! Good luck!
